How are BLANK canvases created?
Canvases are printed by the giclée (pronounced jee-klay) printing method, using light- and water-resistant, archival-quality UltraChrome pigment inks. Giclée printing rivals traditional silver halide and gelatin printing processes and if kept in optimium conditions, a print can last up to 80 years. Commonly found in museums, and art and photographic galleries, giclée prints feature an elegant matt finish rather than the shiny surface characteristic of regular inkjet printing.
The printed canvas is then hand-stretched on a 4cm-thick wooden frame with fixings out of sight, creating a contemporary 'museum profile' look. The proportions of our canvases are perfect for frameless display.
Will the colours on my printed canvas look very different from those on screen?
Fortunately, giclée printing uses the same RGB colour mode adopted by computer monitors and despite having printed hundreds of canvases, we’ve never had a problem with colour accuracy.
Due to the very different mediums, there may of course be slight colour variances between what you see on screen and on your final canvas (we can’t control the contrast and hue settings on individual screens), but the variances usually fall within a barely perceptible and definitely an acceptable range.
How are BLANK canvases packaged?
Canvases are carefully protected by tissue paper, bubble wrap and cardboard corners, then wrapped in heavy-duty cardboard.
How should I care for my giclée canvas?
While printed with light- and water-resistant inks, it is best to keep BLANK canvases away from hot and humid environments, like bathrooms or kitchens. Should your canvas get dusty, clean with a feather duster or dry, soft cloth. Avoid getting the canvas wet and do not apply solvents.
How do I order a BLANK canvas?
For our ‘Bespoke’ canvases (Favourite Things, Silhouette Portraits, World Map etc), go to Bespoke and complete the relevant online order form.
For our ‘Icons’ canvases, go to Icons and click any 'Create you own canvas' button, then follow the step-by-step instructions.
For our pre-designed canvases, go to Off the wall to simply click and buy.
In about one week, your canvas will be delivered to you. (Bespoke and international orders may take longer.)
What payment methods and currencies do you accept?
Icon and Off the wall canvases can be paid for online by all major credit cards or PayPal.
Bespoke canvases can be paid for online by all major credit cards (through a PayPal account); by PayPal; or by bank transfer.
When paying by bank transfer, all bank charges must be paid by the customer. Please add HK$15 for transfers from non-Hang Seng banks in Hong Kong, and HK$60 for transfers from accounts outside Hong Kong. There is no charge when transfers are made at Hang Seng or HSBC ATMs in Hong Kong.
For details, please refer to the online order forms in the Bespoke section.
For all canvases, payment can be made in UK pounds sterling, Hong Kong dollars or US dollars, depending on the delivery country. (Currencies are automatically linked to the delivery location.)
What is your returns policy?
Because the canvas you've created is completely unique and made to order, we cannot offer a refund for unwanted items. However, if the packaging arrives badly damaged, do not accept the delivery and please ask the courier company to return it to us.
In the highly unlikely event that the canvas arrives damaged (despite the packaging arriving intact), please contact us immediately with the details of your order and a photo of the damaged area. Return the canvas in its original packaging (for protection) by recorded/registered delivery within 14 days of receiving it, and we will send you another canvas to the exact same design, free of charge.
What about import duty?
There is no import duty to pay on orders from the UK; from countries within the European Union; or from Hong Kong where BLANK also has a production facility. However, please note that import duties may apply on deliveries to countries outside these territories. Any import duty due must be paid locally by the customer, although it is worth noting that there is often no duty to pay on canvases shipped in small quantities.
